Housed here temporarily, while awaiting more suitable facilities in the Eras de la Sal Historical and Monumental Complex, one of its sections is devoted to archaeology, owing to the large quantity of archaeological remains recovered from the sea, which testify to the important Roman maritime and commercial trade once plied along this coast. It also displays models of sailing ships built locally, as well as objects used in the art of fishing and in salt production and handicrafts

Archpresbyteral Church of the Immaculate Conception

Church of the Immaculate Conception

Plaza Constitución. Tel: 96 571 21 32

Originally erected in 1798, it was rebuilt in the year 1844 using ashlars or blocks of stone from the Old Tower near the Eras de la Sal, which had fallen into ruin after the earthquakes that had destroyed the city.
The church is built in Neoclassical style. Inside, the traditional Latin cross ground plan is roofed over with barrel vaults with lunettes in the central nave and groin-vaults in the transepts. It also possesses some fine images, particularly that of the Immaculate Conception in the central niche of the altarpiece, the work of José Puche (1791). Its main frontage is simple and sober, a prominent feature being the two bell towers topped by pyramidal figures.

Cape Cervera Old Tower

Torre del Moro at Torrevieja

Also known as the Torre del Moro (Moor's Tower), it was erected in the 14th century on Cape Cervera, a privileged position from which to survey the coast for possible pirate or Barbary raiders. Its circular ground plan, 9 metres in diameter, has undergone numerous alterations throughout its history. The 23,000 sq. metre park created around it, known as the Mirador Turístico de la Torre del Moro, offers a fine panoramic view of coast and contains a large network of paths, a small rivulet and children's amusements. It also boasts two shacks, replicas of old local dwellings, while in one corner of the park stands a ship that reminds us of the salt handicrafts for which the town is noted.
